Mahal's victory at Backlash and his take on the WWE Championship was a huge shock to WWE and the entire wrestling world, so much so that a week after his match and despite the speed of social networking, Jinder remains a hot and sensitive subject. Let us pause for a moment on some interesting or surprising facts of his life.
1- Alcoholism and Depression
Everyone who comes to WWE realizes a childhood dream and hopes to see their career grow, compete with the best and conquer as many titles as possible. However, Mahal's career has never been grandiose, and his alliance with Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater in 3MB has completed his morale. He was depressed when he realized his jobber status at WWE and the fact that he will never grow up, and has also fallen into alcoholism, even drinking every night. This behavior was also the reason for his place in the federation.
Once returned Jinder continues his bad habit but got a click when he saw a video of him in an independent show in 2015. From then on he stopped the alcohol and decided to take control, He will never have anything if he does not respect himself. It took him a lot of courage to confess this story in Chris Jericho's podcast.
As a reminder, Jinder lost his last game to the last WWE in his first run against El Torito, which in effect dropped into a depression.
2- TNA contacted him just before he returned to WWE
Even though WWE has always been his dream, he could have had many doubts about a possible return. It is also remembered that the federation sought to extend its roster after the Draft and contacted several former Superstars, including Mahal who finally agreed, but the TNA was also on his back.
Indeed Jinder himself confessed that the TNA called him a few days before the WWE would contact him for a return, for an appointment in Orlando with the officials of the federation. Even though he had already decided to return to Vince McMahon's side, Mahal went to this meeting out of respect. What would have been his career if he had signed with these competitors?
3- The flair of Vince McMahon
The Chairman is a legend of wrestling that is no longer presented and is also behind this title of Jinder Mahal. Indeed after his victory at Smackdown who crowned him No. 1 Contender at the WWE Championship (which was already a huge shock) Jinder Mahal made a promotion in the ring, which was written by the Chairman's hand. The latter also absolutely wanted Jinder to speak in Indian, which he said would have given him more boos from the fans, and he had seen right. Vince has also been involved in live events by forcing Jinder to make promos so that his side heel goes up and over the weeks we could see the hatred climbing towards the Indian. Fans have had a role to play in all these phases since without reactions, the result would have been different.
In addition, Jinder initially disliked this idea of the 'anti-American' and did not want to play racism or patriotism to create a character, but admitted that this type of character is part of the history of wrestling. One recalls the Sgt gimmick. Slaughter enormously hated in the 80s. He finally had to resign himself to it, for the good cause.
4- Shows as big as Wrestlemania
Everything is disproportionate in India, the size of the cities, the population and more, and during his absence from WWE, Mahal was invited by the greatest Indian wrestler of all time, The Great Khali, and participated in shows before 30,000 to 60,000 people. He admitted that if a show takes place in Delhi, it could well surpass Wrestlemania since these events did not take place in large cities of the country. One imagines therefore the disproportionate figures that could have a show of the WWE in a large Indian city with Jinder Mahal champion. As such, this market is perhaps a good opportunity for development.
5- Another destruction of The Shield
After several feuds without interest Jinder Mahal will be at NXT in 2012, become the third division of the WWE after a reconstruction. He nevertheless made a good impression despite his status of jobber and talent of the roster hand and lost in the final of the tournament for the NXT Championship, against Seth Rollins.
Later Jinder teamed up with Slater and McIntyre in 3MB, and this group was to become the great alliance heel of the federation, a place that was chipped by The Shield who once buried the hopes of the Indian, Rollins never had a good influence on him.
In an interview he also confessed that at the end he had nothing more to do with the group or his matches, and simply did what he was told without bothering.
Jinder Mahal thus had a career with twists and turns without much sparkle before he became No. 1 Contender at the WWE Championship. Despite more low than high, he managed the feat of winning the WWE title for his very first belt in the federation.
