Interviewed by CBS Sports, the new WWE Champion, Jinder Mahal spoke of his backstage after his victory at Backlash:
As soon as I got into the Gorilla Position, they were all there to make me a standing ovation. It was one of the best feelings of my life. I think I never had a standing ovation before. I've been wrestling for fifteen years already so I've done half of my life. It feels good. I had the impression that everything ended up at that time, come back in the Gorilla and receive all the respect of Vince, producers and everyone, a dream come true.
I think it's good for wrestling and the locker room. From seeing me at the bottom of the card, being a guy who was only opening the show and who worked hard to get to the main event today. It motivates everyone and shows them that everything is possible. "
Mahal also spoke with The Times of India and talked about his first run at WWE:
I came back less than a year ago and honestly during my first run, and I'm the first to admit it, I did not give myself 100%. I was too young. I learned the lessons and thought that if one day I come back to WWE, I will make sure I have no regrets and I will give myself 110%. And when we give ourselves so much, we also receive. I gave myself to the WWE to try to be the best superstar in the roster, and they rewarded me by giving me an opportunity to become WWE
