WWE announced yesterday that the thirtieth edition of the Royal Rumble would be held January 29, 2017, in Alamadome San Antonio, Texas. The last time the federation had organized an event in this stage was in 1997, already for the Royal Rumble. At the time, the local hero Shawn Michaels won the WWE Championship in the main event.
The capacity of the arena is more than 60 000 spectators, a similar audience to that of a Wrestlemania.

It is stated in the announcement that the Superstars of RAW and Smackdown will participate in the (same) Royal Rumble Match and the winner will receive an opportunity for a major title at WrestleMania 33 on April 2.
